Today I:
Slept in (God bless DH), showered, dressed, applied make up, went to work, ran reports, spoke with students, worked on events, commiserated with colleagues, ran more reports, scoured the city for donations, let the dogs out, went back to work, went home for the day, scrubbed the house, forgot to re-load the laundry (kudos to my co-pilot), played balloon with Murman, cooked dinner, conversed with DH, threw the ball for the hounds, played some more with Murman, and now, finally, I'm relaxing on the couch with the cat. The result? A happy kid, a satisfied husband, played out dogs, a clean home, and an extremely tired me. Benefits? Complete, utter contentment. Yes, there is always work to be done, but the rest will wait until tomorrow. This is the ultimate life. I look forward to a repeat tomorrow.
Safe travels G&G!

The World is My. . . Crab
I've been a bit crabby lately. It's no one's fault, just a simple matter of running in several directions at once. I have to calm down and take life one day at a time; eventually Craig will heal and I will sleep again. Mornings in our house have gone from routine to complete chaos. Take today, for instance. By the time I had us clean, dressed, the car warm, and out the door, I realized that the car seat needed to re-installed. It happens every time we need to have someone else pick up/drop off Murray at daycare. I don't know why I can't remember to take care of it the night before.
Craig is hanging in there, but the pain and boredom are wearing on him. He did four loads of laundry today(leaving him exhausted and in pain). Since he can't lift, I brought the clean baskets to him and he did the folding. I'm getting a pretty good laundry deal out of this mess.
Murray is, well, Murray. I miss him with these long hours, but I manage to find special moments with him in the morning and the evening. Things will settle down work-wise when the students go on break, so it won't be so many late nights until after Christmas break. I know it's for the best, and the best is all I can do.
On a final note, H family and YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, Craig almost fell off the couch and broke another vertebrae when he received your "Get Better Sioux" card. That said, I laughed, and I laughed, and then I laughed some more. I'm framing the card. Murray hasn't opened his present yet, but you will be hearing from him when he does. Lastly, H family (because I know MH, you are reading), we love your card, we love you, and we wish you the very best in the weeks ahead. Thanks for the super picture. You are in our prayers.
That's all I have for now. My couch is calling (because my bed is hosting an injured, snoring man). Until next time. . .

"They Keep Moving the Cheese"
I'd like to begin by stating our utmost love and respect for the "F" family, you know that you are and will continue to be in our prayers. We're with you all the way.
The title to this post is taken from a an excerpt in the book, "Who Moved My Cheese?", an inspirational and phenomenal look at change in the workplace.
Today was my first day at the Foundation. Kim (whose job I will assume) is an amazing woman and an excellent trainer. I met some of the students that I will be supervising and am looking forward to meeting the others on Wednesday evening. I spoke with my soon-to-be boss today, and she and I will work on my job description as the month progresses. My initial responsibilities include coordinating the annual Phone-A-Thon and the Campus Campaign. Event planning is in the near future and I'm thrilled already at my new position. The staff at the Foundation is fantastic and I'm thrilled to be a part of the team. That said, I will miss my bosses and supervisors in the President's Office, but this is an amazing opportunity. The chips landed in such a way that I just know that God is with me (not to mention all of those who went to bat for me).
Craig had his first outing today. I drove Miss Daisy to his office and to Human Resources to complete some paperwork. I think he had fun getting out, but I know he was pretty sore and tired when I deposited him back at home. I feel so helpless; I'd rather it was me than him.
I didn't get to spend more than ten minutes with Murray tonight, but every second was precious. When I walked in the door tonight, he shouted, "Mama, you came back! You done with work? I missed you!" Words can't describe how my heart swelled. I am an incredibly lucky woman.
Thanks to Jon and Troy for providing food and company for Murray and Craig tonight while I was away. Everyone who has volunteered to help us out means a great deal, and don't be surprised if we take you up on your offers. The meals and help with Murray are a real blessing, especially with my work transition.
Many, many thanks to all.
Blessings,
M

Downs and Ups
PLEASE NOTE: THIS POST WAS WRITTEN ON WEDNESDAY I APOLOGIZE FOR THE DELAY.
Have you had a day when you just know, without a doubt, that God is with you?
I spent the morning at home with Craig to observe his independence level. Craig isn't allowed to shower without an adult in the house because it's one of the two instances that he can remove his brace. This scares me silly. Clark G. (a.k.a. Craig) requested a BLT for lunch, so this morning I cooked the bacon and then realized that I needed to move the remaining ingredients to the top shelf of the fridge. He can't bend, so I have to think ahead, but I'm working on making life a bit easier. Today, his first day alone without nurses or me, he managed pretty well.
This is where it gets crazy.
Last Tuesday, I was gently (and tearfully) informed by President Edna that due to the economy, my temporary job would end on January 4th, 2010. She offered references, help finding a job, and letters of recommendation. What a compliment! I was devastated, but I do understand what the budget crisis in Minnesota is doing to the MnSCU institutions.
I hesitated to say anything to anyone. I needed to process and think things through. I completely forgot about the situation when Craig got hurt; obviously, work was the least of my concern.
I walked into work at 11:30 a.m today and was greeted with smiles, welcome backs, and many "how is Craig?" It was so worth it; beautiful to realize how much human nature is kind, compassionate and caring.
About 30 minutes later, I was asked to see the VP for the Alumni Foundation. After she closed the door, she explained that one of her best employees was leaving, and asked if I would be interested in taking a modge podge of responsibilities. I accepted. I will be mainly handling events and some fund raising (the Phone-A-Thon) and whatever else they send my way. I'm thrilled, excited and eager to learn. I will do what is needed and beyond; I'm tickled!.
It's been a roller coaster of a week. My goal for the weekend is to finish the housework (I did get the floors scrubbed, dusted, and the cleaned the bathroom, but the bedrooms are another story). I also hope to make several dishes that can be frozen into small portions for Craig (and me for work). Recipes welcome!
Craig is healing slowly, but surely adapting. He is bored to tears, and I can't blame him. When he looks forward to laundry, I know without a doubt that I have to get creative.

Hot Spots
I started this post last night, but was too tuckered out to finish, so I'm taking a few minutes of my lunch break to finish.
We are battling hot spots (skin lesions that are caused when the dog licks his/herself too much)with Nala and Rudy. Nala is beyond help, but Rudy has one small spot that we are hoping to stop before it gets the point of no return. I cut up a pair of pantyhose and that worked for a while, but then Nala ate it. We'll keep on them both, but now we have another problem: eating of the pantyhose.
Craig, Randi and Mary traded taking the the boys last week, since our "Lynnie" was on vacation. I, also, had them both on Saturday morning. We've found that it's easier to have them both - despite the fights - than it to have one. They play together and we only have to step in occasionally to break up a boxing match. I expected tears when I dropped Murray off at Lyn's house today, but he literally pushed me out the door and then slammed on my toe. Sheesh.
The event at President Edna's house went well. In fact, it was a bit reminiscent of my Food and Beverage Management days. I had fun connecting with those I knew through Craig, and was pleased to meet those I haven't. There is so much expertise and wisdom amongst the retirees - it was quite an experience.
I'm off to work on the next event - a BBQ for Greater Moorhead Days. Let the planning begin!
Have a fantastic Monday.

Curlers and Connundrums
And. . . we're off. To a new week that is. There is something about Sundays that I find a bit sad, but more importantly, I feel excited for the week ahead. Part of it is that I (for less than another month) get to go to work. The other part, of course is the fact that I'm a physical contribution to this great planet. The best part? Spending the week with DH and Murray, not to mention the prospect of getting together with friends. Because Craig was absent last week, the thought of having the three of us together - if only for 4 days (he travels again on Thursday, then again next weekend for a political convention) - is a wonderful sensation. Murray and I really miss him when he is away. That said, we love him for his passion, work ethic, and dedication to our family.
Tonight I am sitting here in my pink foam curlers, praying for awesome hair tomorrow. I don't have my 6-week cut and color until Tuesday, so I'm improvising. I can't stand it when my hair is out of whack. Besides, wearing these silly foam contraptions reminds me of my mom. And even though she always got good results, time will tell what will happen when it was me, not her that rolled up my damp hair. If Craig makes fun of me one more time, I may put curlers in his hair while he is sleeping.
With that; good night, and if you see Craig with a 'fro, (or maybe bald?) it wasn't me!

Is that how you spell that?????
I am completely out of the loop, too tired to think, much less write, so please bear with me.
Quick catch up: Overtime, strep throat (me last week), more overtime, Murray sick (last week), Craig misses work and volunteer activities due to Murray being sick, I work overtime on the weekend, all is well. So we think. Murray gets sick again yesterday, I'm still working my tail off so Craig can't work, now Craig is sick and I feel like a lot of dirt has hit the fan. There are a hundred other things that I am praying for and worrying about, but it's hard to get out of the box when all I can do is run, take care of sicklings, including me; run, run, work, work, and never mind anything to do with our home chores. Honestly, "Little Miss Picky" has done a complete one-eighty - I can't keep up and if you come to our house, well, so be it if it's a huge mess.
Now that I have THAT off my chest, I will tell you that I am quite happy. I love, love, love my job - although it's bad timing for me to be working so much - but some things I can do at home (said things I'm doing now, but have taken a break to post). I'm still hoping that this will turn into something permanant. GPIM is just that fantastic. I love what we do, who we do it for, and even the everyday "drudgery".
That said, I'm off to see if DH needs more ibufrofen, water or cough drops. After that, I will check Murray's temp, give myself another dose of antibiotics and ibuprofen, finish a bit more work and FINALLY, hit the hay. Tomorrow begins our billing cycle, so the more I accomplish at home, the less stressed I will be in the morning (one can dream, but still, I love it).
Please, keep reading. I promise to post more when I can. Thanks for your loyalty.
God Bless you this Easter/Passover,
Marie

Week End Exhaustion
It's hard to believe that it's Friday again. The week flew by at break-neck speed. I'm so tired tonight that all I want to do is crawl under the covers and sleep until 5:00am tomorrow when Murray wakes up (yes, he's still waking up with the roosters). I remember feeling exhausted on Friday nights after a long week of work. So much for my twenties (although I'm still in my twenties for another 3 months) when all I wanted to do on Friday evenings is party. Now I just want to be with my family and go to bed early which makes me very happy. Growing up isn't so bad after all.
I don't have a lot to report, but felt like I should blog anyway. Work is good - Lacy still hasn't had her baby so I'm still training with her which is great - but busy. Of course, if you know me, you know that I don't like to be bored on the job. I think on my feet and love to be juggling several balls in the air, so to speak.
I'm very excited for Mags. Her last day at her old job was today and on Monday she will report to her law firm as a professional paralegal. There is a going-away party for her tomorrow night and while I'll never make it to the bar at 9pm, I hope to join the group for dinner. I'm just so darn proud of her!
The weekend looks to be quiet, which I am grateful for. Even though tomorrow is my day to wake up with Murray (I bargained with Craig), if I go to sleep early I will be fine. Besides, we're learning that early morning with Murray gives us extra time to play with him and even get some laundry/housework done. Essentially, we give up at our attempts to make him sleep until at least 6am. Some kids are just early risers for the first few years and we just have to deal!
Craig and Murray should be home soon, so I'm signing off for now. God bless and peace, prayers to our cousin, Tena May.

He's Home!
I'm thrilled to report that Craig is home. I am so lucky to have married my soul-mate (even if he is very busy). Don't get me wrong, Murray and I do fine on our own, but I feel complete when he is with us (that's not to say that we don't need time apart; everyone does). The house still isn't perfect, but with a bit of help yesterday we at least have a semblance - though small - of order.
It looks to be a quiet week which I am grateful for. My temp job gets better every day as I become more knowledgeable; thus more confident. Lacy, who I will be filling in for while she is on maternity leave is a patient and intelligent teacher. I'm afraid of how I will perform when she is away, though I know that I can think on my feet and this is a vital quality in any position. Plus, she has a binder of tutorials for the tough stuff, and I have almost filled an entire legal pad with notes and instructions.
Wish me luck,
M

Slapping Craig
Funny thing how life doesn't stop, even if you think it should just take a rest for a minute.
Last night I read for three hours and when I finally gave up, I dozed on and off, my mind racing in between very strange dreams. So much seems to be happening at break-neck speed, but at the same time, I feel as though time is dragging. Sounds strange, I know, but it's true. At one point, I was having such a bizarre dream that I physically slapped Craig - hard - strangely, it wasn't him I was dreaming about. In the dream, I was slapping a lady who was assaulting us, and I distinctly remember how good it felt to slap her in my dream. Poor Craig woke up and said, "what the heck did you hit me so hard for"? I hadn't realized that I had whopped him one in my sleep. No wonder we have a king-size bed. He needs protection from his own wife.
I have another temp opportunity, and it seems to be a go. You may remember from my last post, that there is a need for a sales assistant at a local radio group while their permanent employee takes maternity leave. I was able to negotiate a salary that I can agree with, and I start a week from Monday (training). I'm thrilled, to say the least, especially since I will be working for a former supervisor and now friend. Murray and I met everyone this morning and since I've been in the media for so long, I know half of the staff already (huge bonus). Those I didn't know were very friendly and welcoming. The hours are 8am-3pm, which will be a perfect transition to a full-time world down the road. I'm going stir-crazy in the house.
Yesterday, my dad, Maggie and I attended the funeral for our friend Roger. It was an emotional day, to say the least, but it felt good to be able to celebrate his life and grieve his death with others. I know he's in heaven and am sure my Mom is showing him the ropes (to quote my dad). My prayers to Roger's loved ones.
Murray is napping (surprisingly so after 3 cookies at my new "temp" office" and a tootsie roll and a Hershey Kiss at Craig's office), so I think I'll take advantage of my time and get some cleaning done. The clutter and toddler toys may have won this battle, but I am determined to win the war.
I will be having another contest in the near future, so keep checking back!

Back at it, at Least, Temporarily
I received a call yesterday from my mother-in-law (she is the the textbook manager at a local college). If you aren't familiar with this time of year, for universities everywhere, it's book rush. Book rush equates to extreme craziness for campus bookstores. Some colleges tend to hire extra help during these periods because students have classes and there just isn't enough full-time staff to cover the chaos. So, at the last minute, the temp that was previously hired backed out and Mary needed help. I worked the fall book rush in 2002 and had a blast, so of course when Mary offered me a two-week gig in the bookstore I was thrilled. Today was my first day. The students are much friendlier than I remember, especially the student workers who are training me in. They don't treat me like a dumb old lady newbie and their knowledge of all things related to the bookstore is amazing! I just love being surrounded by stacks and stacks of books; the colors, the smells, the sound of brand new book spines cracking. Hmmm. . .maybe I should study library science? Anyway, it was very short notice, but it's nice to be out of the house and contributing to the family income again.
The other good news I have is that I must have passed the phone interview because I was called today for an on-site interview. I'm thrilled. They are interviewing four candidates, including myself. If it doesn't work out, I'll know that God has other plans, but I'm still praying.
If you have travel plans this weekend, please make sure you have emergency kits in your cars. When DH traveled a few weeks ago, I asked if I should put together some safety items for his trip. Here's how the conversation went:
Me: Do you want me to pack some candles, matches, a flash light and batteries etc?
Craig: No thanks, I have a blanket in the car and I always stop and get a candy bar when I get gas.
Me: Hysterical laughter.
Does he really think that a blanket and a Hershey bar will save his life? Sheesh. Anyway, on my to-do list this weekend is to assemble a real emergency kit, candy bars and all.
I'm off to start the weekend. More tomorrow. Tomorrow or Sunday we plan to take Murray to open skate (indoor arena), so I will post some pictures. As for the moment, snuggle in; it's only going to get colder!
Blessings,
M

Red Tape and Rigmorole
I spent the last two-plus hours on the ND Unemployment website (a.k.a. UI ICE). I cannot believe the hoops I have to jump through to receive a very small sum of money each week. Don't get me wrong - I'm happy that they don't hand out cash to anyone who asks for it. I was just surprised at the amount of activity they monitor. I felt like I had to explain what I've been doing every moment since I was released from employment. Now that I have the initial red-tape paperwork complete, I have to report that I've applied for at least 2 positions weekly. It should be much less time-consuming from here on out.
So I've attacked that chore, and I'm sitting on my couch, guiltily watching "Wife Swap" re-runs. How pathetic can I get? That's a rhetorical question. Please don't answer it when you comment. :) Anyway, after applying for four jobs and dealing with the government, I feel like I have accomplished quite a bit for this morning. Unfortunately, I have a list a mile long today: bills, picking up after little one, getting my resume printed, laundry, present wrapping, etc. But you know what? I don't mind a bit. I'm really liking this work-at-home-mom business. I know it can't last, but I'm going to enjoy every minute. And besides, most people have to deal with these everyday tasks while employed!
If you get a chance, I was featured in The Forum in an article featuring parent blogs. You can check it out at: www.inforum.com I was honored to be included!
I can't end this post without mentioning Urban Hair, a new salon in south Moorhead. I've been friends with Lisa, the owner, for almost ten years and she's been taking care of my hair for a long time. They offer massage therapy, essential oils, special services, and of course, the best hair care in town. If you would like more contact info, let me know. I promise you won't find a more trendy, comfortable and reasonably priced studio anywhere. The grand opening is on Friday at 4:00pm - ribbon cutting, tours, and wine and cheese - all are invited. I don't mean to sound like a commercial, I just really think you will love Lisa, her staff and her salon. If you watch Valley Today on channel four or eleven, Urban Hair will be featured tomorrow morning.
Ok, I'm finally off to my chores. Have a blessed day.

This Isn't the Worst That Could Happen
When I last posted, I was at work and life was looking pretty great. Life is still wonderful, but we've hit a bump in the road. Yesterday at 12:40pm, by boss informed me that he had to make cuts and although he looked down other avenues, my job was the first to go. I was so much in shock that I was dizzy and sick to my stomach. He explained that it had nothing to do with me (thankfully) but that the company wasn't doing so well and changes needed to be made. I am heartbroken - I loved my position at MMC and the people that I worked with. However, we (they) are a small company and it makes sense to let me go. My boss was very sad too; he said that he really didn't want to see me leave, but at this point there weren't any other options. Tomorrow I will go in and clean out my desk, say my goodbyes and start anew.
I was devastated and am still saddened. However, I have no hard feelings or resentments and am looking at this as an opportunity to start again with a clean slate. I have so many dreams, and this might just be the perfect opportunity to pursue them. I'm going into this with an open mind and heart, and praying that God will guide me to where I need to be. As my sister pointed out, "This too shall pass", and "Things will be greater later." Also on my list of favs is "When one door closes, another opens". My resume is ready, but I've also made a list of options that I'd like to investigate before any serious decision is made. I'm so grateful for the things I've learned at MMC and for the friends that I have cherished while there (even through the rough stuff).
I'm off to bed; tomorrow will be emotionally exhausting, but I will prevail! Tomorrow is another day and the world is full of opportunities.
God Bless,
M

Where Do I Begin?
It's been a while since my last post. I was hoping to be able to write more than you will read here today, but I'm swamped at work (billing is the first few days of the month) with the holiday, so I'm attempting to catch up.
Anyway, I have much to write, pictures to post, and many laughs to share but these will have to wait until I'm caught up with responsibility.
I miss my writing and detest that I've had to put it on hold for the moment. I will be back shortly; please stay tuned.
Thanks for reading.

Work Woes
I need to vent today. I've been working in my current position as an executive assistant for a small firm in the community for almost three years. When I returned to work after maternity leave, I requested part time hours, which my boss generously granted on the condition that I would still be able to keep up with the daily routine. I did, it worked beautifully, and we were all happy (I was saving the company money). I was challenged, busy and fulfilled at work. I looked forward to my office hours each day.
Several months ago, a once full time, then very part-time employee, was hired back full time. Suddenly, I find myself with no responsibility - except to occasionally send a fax or file something. Said tasks are ordered of me from this particular co-worker (not my boss). She's incredibly bright, though her people skills are quite harsh. We compliment each other nicely when we work together. The problem is, she has taken over everything! Literally, everything, including my boss. I haven't heard two words from him (besides questioning the way I handled my only task yesterday) in months. Oh wait, on Tuesday I politely waited for his attention to remind him that I had a Dr.'s appointment the following morning. He interrupted me with a sharp, "I don't care. I'm much to busy to worry about that!" Sheesh, it wasn't like I was going to go into detail about what the appointment was for. I just wanted him to know that I would be about 15 minutes late. I'm confused, upset, and frankly, bored out of my gourd. I was raised to work hard and excel at what I do. Up until recently, I thought I was right on track.
Now, I know I should probably sit down and discuss these matters with my boss, but I just don't have the heart anymore. The last time we had a discussion about my position here, I ended up paying for lunch (his and mine), and nothing was accomplished except for empty promises. I don't necessarily want to look elsewhere for several reasons. One, the flexibility of my hours is very hard to find. Another is that when I was busy, I loved my work. I love the excitement and creativity of the advertising world. It's just not coming across my desk anymore.
That said, I'm done feeling sorry for myself. God has a plan, and I trust that He will help to lead me down the proper path. For now, I will count my blessings. The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and I have a great life. One of the many reasons I love this blog is because writing helps to put things into perspective and bring me back around to optimism.
On a bright note, I have had 2 wonderful afternoons with the twins (they turn 4 mos. today). They are very laid-back babies. Today I plan to tackle the double stroller and take us for a walk. I did say I wanted a challenge!
Murray woke with a fever of 102 degrees on Tuesday night, so Craig was home with him yesterday. He's been a very sad boy, but today seemed to be back to his normal cheery self. I'm hoping it was just a 24 hour bug.
I'm off to read my book for another hour until it's time to go.

A 40 Hour Week? Yikes!
Murray has been sleeping since 6pm. I'm concerned, but I called my Grandma, and she said it's fine, especially since he has an ear infection. I'm still worried because he he only had a banana for a snack at 5:30, but after that he was so crabby that I put him down. He's out like a light. The old adage is true: Never, ever, ever wake a sleeping baby. We'll probably be up at 3am.
I'm working full time this week, due to vacations for my co-workers. It's hard to wake up so early, but I'm sure it's just as hard for Craig to do pick-up and drop-off with Murray. Not an easy task when it's this cold (0h, poor us). I sound like I'm whining, but I'm not. I'll go back to my lovely part time hours next week.
Today, being my first day full-time in quite a while, I forgot my keys to t0 the office and ran our of gas in the meantime. What a Monday! Everything was solved quickly; the building manager of our office suites let me in and brought some gas on the way. Gotta love Keith and Health Source for letting me hang out and have coffee while I waited.
It will be warmer soon; have faith!

20 or 40?
I have some fun pictures from our outing at the pumpkin patch, but of course I forgot the camera at home, so I will have to post them this evening or tomorrow.
I'm working full time this week, which I'm not too sure about. It's good for my depression, in a way, but I miss my special mornings and afternoons with Murray. I loathe loading him in the car at 7:15 to get him to daycare. I hate not being able to give him breakfast. I don't like that we can't play in the afternoon before his nap. My time with him seems so much shorter. It makes me so sad. I realize that many moms work full time, and that's great. I just don't think it's for me. Maybe when he's in kindergarten, but that's a long way off, thankfully. I am going to hang in there this week and we'll see what happens. I'm grateful that I have options and can choose how many hours I want to work.
Stay tuned for pictures!

Ahh. . .it's Friday
I had a busy day today at work and am feeling really good about it. While my new position fell through (the person they hired to take my spot quit after one day), I am taking on extra responsibilties and loving every minute. Today my boss and I drove around town looking for prime billboard locations to decide where to place our client. I learned quite a bit (while I'm familiar with radio and tv, I'm learning about outdoor) and was pleased that he is still keeping his promise and eventually will be the executive assistant. He is so loyal and appreciative and in return, I offer the same.
Plans for the weekend? PJ day tomorrow, Sunday maybe the pumpkin patch if the weather holds. The forecast predicts rain, but it was completely incorrect today, so I'm banking on a beautiful day. Or maybe will just switch pj day with pumpkin patch day. Either way, I am so happy for a quiet weekend.
Have a great one!
