I had an early appointment with my physician this morning to discuss allergies and some problems I've been having with high blood pressure. I took Murray along since doing so allowed me a bit more time to sleep before the trek to West Fargo (yes, I crossed the river). Anyway, after assessing my allergy problem, we tackled the high blood pressure. As we're discussing weight loss and exercise, Murray leans over, pokes the doctor in the arm, turns to me and says, "Mom! Please listen to me. When are we leaving for McDonald's?" Dr. J. burst out laughing, and I said, "Don't worry, Dr., I'll have a smoothie."
Anyway, first step, lose 20 pounds. Second step, get on my allergy medication. Third step, get blood pressure re-checked. I'm going to feel so much better and I can hardly wait! And one final step, reiterate good manners; evidently Murray needs a refresher.
Happy weekend!

Did You Know? Day 5
This will be short and sweet, as it's family night and it's late.
Today I learned:
1. Cleaning the house gives you a great work out - crank the music and dance your way through the chore. Before you know it, it won't be a chore!
2. If your cell phone gets wet, take out the battery and place both your phone and battery in a baggie full of white rice. The rice draws the water out and usually restores your phone. Sometimes, it can take 48 hours or more, like it did for me, but my cell is now like new.
I'll catch you tomorrow - I'm off to sleep.

Did You Know? Day 2
I've retitled my posts for my trial week of learning something new each day. Please feel free to share what you have learned today. Learning new things can be funny too! For instance, Roxane, Peace Garden Mama wrote that she learned that even after her mom comes to stay and does the majority of the laundry, the minute she leaves, it's all piled up again!
Today I've learned:
1. When you exercise in the water (i.e. water aerobics), you generally work 2 (or more) muscles at a time vs. exercising on land, when you work one muscle with each activity.
2. Getting up at 5:15 to get to the Y was way too early. I had plenty of time and sat around waiting for class to begin when I could have grabbed another 15 minutes of sleep.
The day is still young; maybe I'll learn even more new things!

Blessed Weekend
It's been a wonderful Saturday. It was my day to sleep in, so I did, and when I woke up at 9:30, Murray was already down for a morning snooze. I took advantage and read in bed with a hot cup of coffee. After lunch we bundled up to go sledding and let dogs run, but it turned out to be too windy. I did take the dogs for a good run while Murray and Craig played with Grandpa and Grandma B.
I finally went to the tanning bed. I have this fear of tanning beds, but it's so worth it when we get to a sunny place to be able to stay in the sun. I tan very easily, so in two weeks, I'll be ready. We purchased a pop up tent for Murray to use on the beach, and we'll buy a little lawn chair when we get there. He's also geared with plenty of summer clothes, thanks to Grandma B. for hitting the clearance sales last fall. The hard part will be packing a carry-on for a toddler on and eight -and -a -half hour flight.
Tonight Craig and Murray are going to T's house for the Gopher game. I plan to lounge around and read, maybe watch a movie. Tomorrow is house cleaning day - it desperately needs a deep clean. It's strange how lax I've become about house work. It still drives me crazy to have a messy/dirty home, but I've realized that spending time with my family is my number one priority. The housework will always be there and in time, it will get done.
Many happy returns (says Pooh)!

I've been feeling empowered lately. It's a good feeling, and it's about time. I have really been making an effort to take better care of myself. I love going to the Y after work. I've started to feel less insecure and more comfortable with the facilities. I know it will take time and effort but I'll get there. Other than exercise, I've spent more time meditating and writing in my journal. I've also purchased many of the Bare Minerals cosmetics. I realize this sounds silly, but when I walk out the door every morning feeling put together and organized, I accomplish more and have more energy.
On a sad note, a former friend and colleague of my late mom's passed away on Friday evening. Our mutual friend, J, drove down to say goodbye the day before he passed, but I was unable to accompany him due to my sinus infection. While I didn't know him well, I did know him, and my mom worked closely with him throughout different stages in their respective careers. The funeral is tomorrow, and I will be blessed to pay my respects to such a dedicated and talented member of law enforcement world. God Bless you, Sonny, and give my mom a hug for me. I'm sure she'll show you the ropes of heaven.
I'm off to vacuum and prepare for my weekly piano lesson with M. If I don't vacuum first, she'll resemble a golden retriever by the time her lesson is over.

Taking the Plunge
Well, I finally did it. I took the plunge, literally. Early last week I joined the YMCA, but have been too chicken to go. The thought of working out next to the athletic people in the community was just too much. Due to my avoidance, Craig packed my bag last night, so I was forced to stop after work (I had been "forgetting" my work out clothes). Turned out to be well worth it. I opted for the lap swim today, of course I'm huffing and puffing next to the seriously good looking guy who I'm sure is an Olympic swimmer, and who also lapped me twice. I only swam for 20 minutes, but this very out-of-shape body needs to start slowly. I'm looking forward to taking some fitness classes too; maybe next week. I learned two things today: First, I have to remember to pack a plastic bag for my wet suit, and second, I'm going to get past the embarrassment of being ridiculously out of shape, and get IN shape! I'm not expecting miracles, and I know it will take time, but I'm determined.
